Regulating and Operating Displays

LCD Display:
Large alpha/numeric display on the Control Panel backlit for easy viewing, reports all regulating, controlling and self-prompting functions of the unit.

Self-Prompting:
All regulation and control functions are self-prompting with necessary commands shown on the LCD display.

Ready Light:
This large green light appears above the LCD display when full power has been turned on and the unit is ready to detect. The light will also indicate when an individual inspection has been completed by the unit and it is ready to accept the next person.

Alarm Light:
One or both of these lights will appear above the vertical bar graph when the unit detects a target amount of metal on an individual, according to specifications of the Program and Sensitivity levels. If only one light appears, it will indicate which side (left or right) of the detector the largest target can be found. Light(s) will appear even when sound volume has been turned off. When both light are illuminated, targets(s) are centered in the archway or balanced within it.

Bar Graph:
These two LED arrays indicate the detection intensity which is based the amount of composition of metallic objects passing through the unit. Bar graphs relate to the red Alarm Lights that report detectable metal on either side of the unit or centered/balanced within it.

Eight touch pads on the Control Panel below the LCD display on the archway perform all control functions.

Off:
When this touch pad is pressed, the unit is turned off. All information and settings are stored in memory and the unit is ready to be returned to full operation instantly when the OPERATE pad is touched.

Operate:
When this touch pad is pressed, full detection power of the unit is turned on. It also initiates an automatic and comprehensive self-test and diagnostic program for instant fault detection. Touching this pad at any time activates the testing procedure. If faults are found, they will be immediately reported on the LCD display.

Counter:
When this touch pad is pressed, the current traffic count for the unit is shown on the LCD display. Pressing and holding this touch pad for ten (10) seconds causes the counter to return to zero (O).

Volume:
When this touch pad is pressed, the volume level of the unit's audio alarm will be displayed on the LCD display. By using the + and - touch pads, operators can raise or lower the volume.

+ and -:
These touch pads will be used to increase or decrease various numerical settings and for certain On/Off functions.

Program:
When this touch pad is pressed, the settings for Program and Sensitivity will appear on the LCD display.

All of the above touch pad functions are available to operators of the detector.

Access:
This touch pad to be used by supervisory management personnel entering specific codes. It permits changing the Program and Sensitivity codes and also is used to control such functions as synchronization of multiple units, pulse frequency. The unit further protects security of control settings by maintaining a non-resettable sequence code that indicates any attempt at seeking access to the settings. A tamper alarm sounds within 10 seconds after the Access touch pad is pressed unless a proper access code is entered.

Technical Specifications

Electronics:
Digital-controlled pulse induction metal detector with multidimensional detection; target location discernible on left or right side or in center of detector; microprocessors utilized in both detection and control circuitry. Electronics are modular and designed for easy plug- in and change.

Detection Field:
Unique coil design offers multidimensional detection field with total uniformity both horizontally and vertically. This coil design plus a choice of 3 levels of ankle level boost eliminates traditional hot spots and weak signals. Target detection is precise regardless of its location or orientation in the archway.

Self Diagnostic:
Whenever unit is turned on, self-test of all system is performed automatically with any failures or problems reported on the LCD Display.

Program Levels:
Ultimate versatility: 20 standard programs. Designed for tailoring specific programs to fulfill various security applications.

Sensitivity:
1-200 per program for precise target selection.

Memory:
All program selections and settings are maintained in electrically erasable non-volatile memory. The unit win maintain all settings even when disconnected from power. No battery is required for memory retention.

Overhead control unit:
LCD Display, LED bar graph and control touch pad plus all wiring, connections and electronics are integrated m a single overhead compartment; eliminates exposed wires and external control box.

Control outputs:
Solid state switches (low voltage AC or DC) for operating external alarms and control devices.

Indicators:
Ready light indicates unit is operational: Alarm light and audible alarm are activated when target amount of metal is detected; LED bar graph indicates amplitude of alarm signal.

Traffic counter:
Built-in and resettable with current reading easily available on LCD panel.

Tamperproof:
Dual-level access codes required to set or change all sensitivity settings and detection programs; one level for use by supervisors in selecting programs and sensitivity and the other for initial set-up and overall control; non-resettable sequence code lo gs all changes made whenever sensitivity codes are accessed. Audible alarm reports any unauthorized attempt at access.

Construction:
Attractive scratch- and mar-resistant laminate with resilient end caps; control panel and cross pieces of heavy duty aluminum.

Regulatory standards:
The Garrett Magnascanner MT 5500 meet or exceeds detection requirements of the National Institute of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Standards #0601.00, levels 1-5 and Federal Aviation Administration airport applications specifications. Programs have been designed specifically to meet the three-gun test of the FFA and requirements of the Undetectable Firearm Act of 1991.
This unit also complies with IEC standards for Safety Requirements for Electronic Measuring Apparatus and meets the Federal Communication Commission Class B standards for noise emission from commercial electrical equipment.

Public Safety:
The peak magnetic field strength of less than one Gauss will not affect magnetic recording media, including magnetic tape, diskette and cards. The Magnascanner has been tested accordance to and meets the electromagnetic safety requirements of:

-Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers: " A Standard for Safety Levels with Respect to Human Exposure to Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields, 3 kHz to 300 GHz. " IEEE C95.1 1991 section 4.12.

- Occupational and Safety Health Administration: Radiation Guide, CFR 1910.97 section (2)i.

-National Institute of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice: Standards for Walk-Through Metal detectors for Use in Weapons Detection, NILECJ-STD=0601.00 section 4.11.

-Canada Health and Welfare: Performance Standards (Walk Through), RPB-SC-18 section 3.2.2 which addresses the issue of electromagnetic affects to cardiac pacemakers.

Infrared sensor:
Improves analysis of detection signal; increases throughput; helps eliminate "false alarms," also provide accurate traffic counter.

Interference rejection:
100% sensor coil Faraday shielding; special Garrett built-in circuitry for noise suppression and ignoring x-ray monitor horizontal sync.

Masking:
Microprocessor programming designed to eliminate the problem of detection signals from two or more targets canceling each other.

Synchronization:
Multiple frequencies permit several Magnascanners to operate simultaneously in close proximity.

Electrical:
Fully automatic 90 to 265 VAC, 50 or 60 Hertz, 5 watts; no rewiring, switching or adjustments required. Power supply meets UL, CSA, TUV, and VDE Standards.

Operating temperatures:
-4F (-20C) to + 158F (70C)

Humidity:
To 95% noncondensing.

Throughput rate:
Continuous detection means throughput is not limited by electronics; more than 60 detections per minute is reasonable; overall throughput maximized by minimum false alarms and alarm display that assist in location targets.

Weight:
Approximately 115 pounds (52.1 kg).

Warranty:
24 months. Parts and labor.
